4+ min ago (124+ words) A bill by Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno aims to halt the practice of U.S.-born citizens claiming citizenship in another country. Damian Trujillo reports. Applications for dual citizenship in the United States are skyrocketing. Most applicants are U.S.-born citizens, who by ancestry, can also claim citizenship in another country. A bill by Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno aims to halt the practice. The Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025 would strip Americans of their legal status in this country if they are granted dual citizenship in another country. Legislative analysts said the bill faces an uphill battle, but given the current political climate, even the idea has some deeply worried. Damian Trujillo takes a closer look. 46+ min ago (193+ words) Tuesday marked the first full day of testimony in the San Francisco murder trial of a man accused of killing another man affectionately known to his family and friends as "Grandpa Vicha." Antoine Watson, 24, was 19 when he allegedly attacked 84-year-old Vicha Ratanapakdee in the city's Anza Vista neighborhood. Ratanapakdee later died. For family members, some of the images were difficult to see again. "Continuing emotional because I see a lot of stuff, my father laid out on the pavement with blood all over his head," Ratanapakdee's daughter Monthanus said. Legal analyst Dean Johnson said lots of objections can throw off opposing counsel, but he said it can also annoy the jury. 1+ hour, 8+ min ago (326+ words) A Bay Area civil rights group filed a class action lawsuit to try to end the Trump administration's policy of arresting immigrants at courthouses. On Tuesday, a U.S. district court judge in San Jose heard arguments from the group and the Department of Justice. For months, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the Bay Area have detained people heading into and coming out of routine hearings at immigration court in San Francisco and Concord. The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area filed a lawsuit to stop the practice. "We brought this case because people all across the country are being put to this impossible catch-22 where they either show up to immigration court and risk being escorted out in handcuffs or out of fear of that scenario they stay home and abandon their American dream," said…...

BART officials said Tuesday that Monday morning's meltdown " the latest in a string of major service disruptions " was due to a still unexplained power surge near Montgomery station in downtown San Francisco. BART dispatch recordings show that the incident began at 6:52 a.m., when a train operator reported to BART controllers that he had just witnessed a small explosion in front of his train, with smoke filling the tunnel at Montgomery station. "It was a loud blast as I was coming in," the operator said. "The train went right through it. I couldn't stop in time." The operator reported there was "a lot of smoke behind me." Data centers for AI could nearly triple San Jose’s energy use
4+ hour, 56+ min ago (1214+ words) San Jose, the symbolic capital of Silicon Valley, is now ground zero in California's battle over how to govern the rise of data centers used to power artificial intelligence. The county seat of Santa Clara is touting its partnership with Pacific Gas & Electric, claiming the city is "the West Coast's premier destination for data center development." The investor-owned utility now estimates it has enough capacity in its planning pipeline to push the city's electricity use to almost three times its current peak. Those plans are forcing major grid upgrades, PG&E and city officials say, while raising questions about who pays for them and whether the state can keep the power clean. Panelists at a CalMatters event in downtown San Jose clashed over key issues. They included a local official working with PG&E on the city's data-center buildout, a…...

Palo Alto city leaders vote to ban RV renting
6+ hour, 22+ min ago (281+ words) Palo Alto city leaders are taking drastic new action many believe will soon lead to far fewer RV dwellers on city streets. Supporters of a new ordinance call the phenomenon "vanlording," and in Palo Alto, it no longer will be tolerated. Vanlording is the practice of renting RVs that are parked on public streets. The new ordinance states that the practice is unregulated and thus can create inadequate living conditions for renters. City leaders say the ban targets "vanlords" with fines that are now up to $500 per violation. RVs can be towed once parked for 72-hours. One councilmember who voted against the ordinance says she fears the hardworking people who have no choice but to live in RVs will be stuck in the middle and could lose everthing. And the city will have little to show for it. "I want…...
